For the beginners, we recommend you to choose uncomplicated fabric, some fabrics are a dream to sew like georgette, linen, Italian cotton and etc, but some are nightmares like chiffon, satin or silk. Trying to sew these in your initial days and likely you will have a hard time. Don’t choose delicate slippery fabrics, those are No No for your beginners sewing project.

You do not need the latest sewing machine to start these projects, but, the sewing machine you have should be well maintained and in good working order.
