This course introduces the skills basic to any study process: reading and comprehension. No matter how well you learn to take notes,
how familiar you become with your library, how you surf the Internet, how you study for tests, if you are reading
poorly and not understanding what you read, life will be difficult.
Becoming a good reader is a skill, one usually acquired early in life. If it’s a skill you haven’t acquired yet, now is the time! Iwill also points out how your ability to recall ideas, facts, and figures can be significantly increased (quantitatively and qualitatively) with practice.
To see a significant change in your life, most of you will not need to study harder, just smarter. This means making better use of your study time—spending the same two, three, or four hours, but accomplishing twice, thrice, or four times what you do now.
General study tips:
When you read, you exercise your comprehension abilities and your analytical abilities. It fires up your imagination and stimulates the memory centers of your mind. It helps recall information as well as stabilize your emotions. The importance of a reading habit is that it strengthens mental muscles.
Another one of the many reasons why reading is important is that it allows for creative thinking. Reading can inspire you when you are feeling bored, down or in a rut.. It can help give you that very needed pick-me-up without having to search too far for it. Reading helps get the creative side of your brain thinking, unlike television that really does not use much creative brain power.
If you are still unconvinced or unsure about the importance of reading, or feel as though it’s not beneficial for you personally, then it’s important to note that reading actually helps improve concentration. Reading can train our mind how to focus properly, which is invaluable in nearly everything we do on a daily basis — whether it be as we study or even in our careers and in our personal relationships. We could all benefit from practicing our concentration skills.
