In the first section we will talk about various types of watercolor paper and how to choose the right one for you. Art is about inspiration and creativity but it’s also extremely important for artists to know our tools and to choose them correctly. Paper in watercolor is not just one of the materials we use. Unlike opaque mediums, watercolor lets paper shine through making it an integral part of the finished artwork. We will talk about how watercolor papers are made, how their properties depend on the raw materials they are made of and how they influence the resulting piece of art. I will also tell you about my favorite watercolor paper and demonstrate why I choose to paint the majority of my watercolors on it.
Section two describes many other exciting possibilities for watercolor substrate available to explore. We will review such materials as watercolor canvas, Aquabord, Yupo and we’ll also talk about making virtually any surface suitable for watercolor with products like watercolor grounds.
