We all [myself included] think we know all about prayer. But do we really?

Why are your prayers so often unanswered when God promised that they would be?

Most of what I see in Christian discourse on this subject concentrates on confirming what we know or think we know. How we think we might grow into more effectiveness is just a rehash of what we have always thought. There is no open consideration of the subject. We might call it some form of self conformation theology, as study in or contemplation of our knowledge. We look at the Bible and see what we expect to see. We just say the same things in different ways and think that we have grown. However, we have gone nowhere in our prayer life growth.

In the mystic Christian path we look beyond what we know and look for the deeper truths and information. Sometimes the deeper truths joins with previously held ideas in an expansion of understanding. And sometimes it supplants those former ideas with a better focus on what is being contemplated.
