Nursing is an art, science and humanity, and it is providing society with certain services that are therapeutic in nature that help the individual to remain healthy, and prevent complications resulting from diseases and injuries, and it has both technical and moral (psychological and social) aspects.
The first to practice Western European concepts of nursing during the Middle Ages were the Catholic monks . Similar models of patient care were practiced in other religions in the Middle East and Asia .
During the seventeenth century, nursing was practiced in Europe by prisoners, both men and women. The nurses had a bad reputation as drunks; This worldly vision of nurses was quickly reinforced by some doctors in order to prove their superiority and importance in the field of health, until Florence Nightingale became a nurse, an educated woman from a middle-class family . Florence contributed to the improvement of the nursing profession positively so that people came to regard the nursing profession with appreciation and respect.
In 1853, Theodore Fledner established a hospital where he employed nurses of high morals, which led to the admiration of many people for his health institution, and according to this initiative the British Institute of Nursing "The Sisters" was established.
Prior to the development of modern nursing, monks and members of the military performed nursing-like services. Contemporary nursing has retained some of its religious and military origins, and the British still call the chief nurse 'sister'.
Nursing witnessed an important development during the war, as "Florence" laid the foundation stone for professional nursing after writing "Notes on Nursing", and her book was aimed at improving the health conditions of soldiers during the war.
