What is Salsa Dancing?

Salsa is a Latin dance style connected with salsa music. It is a mixture of Latin Caribbean rhythms such as mambo, pachanga, cha cha, and rumba mixed with an American Jazz flare. It was primarily a street dance created by Cubans and Puerto Ricans in New York City in the 1960's. It later evolved through different Latin influences and American culture. It is now one of the most popular and fun styles of dancing around the entire world.

Salsa is a fun partnered dance where the lead leads the follow through a series of spins and turn patterns to music. Salsa dancing can also be danced solo as dancers break apart during a dance to perform solo movements known as "shines".
