Oral biology provides a foundation for clinic dental sciences, and its understanding can enhance the quality of dental care. The aim of this study was to evaluate dental students' perceptions regarding the relevance of oral biology for dentistry and to investigate their attitude toward its learning and study approaches. Materials and methods. Oral Biology is a tremendously diverse scientific area encompassing the disciplines of molecular biology and genetics, microbiology and immunology, genomics, biochemistry, biophysics, craniofacial development, pharmacology, physiology, and cancer biology. Oral Biology is the branch of dentistry that includes the study of embryology (pre and post-natal growth), oral physiology, gross anatomy, histology, and development with special emphasis on the study of dental hard and soft tissue (enamel, dentin, pulp, and periodontium) and extraoral structures (salivary glands and TMJ).

Oral biology is that area of knowledge that deals with the structure, development, and function of the oral tissues; their interrelationships; and their relation to other organ systems in both health and disease.
