This course is about electrical circuit theory. In this respect we cover charge, charges on the move which constitute the current, passive sign convention, power and energy flow in electrical circuits, definition of voltage, Kirchoff's current and voltage laws, circuit elements (namely the resistors and sources), ohm's law for resistors, parallel and series combinations of resistors , voltage dividers and current dividers.

Circuit Theory is the rigth subject to make a start at learning electricity or electrical engineering.. This course is the first of a series of courses on Electric Circuits which will soon be made available in this platform. This particular course provides the reader with the basic concepts involved in Electric Circuits..We can not build up on electricity or electrical engineering without a good knowledge of the basic circuit theory concepts presented in this course. And if we dont learn these fundamentals the proper way we will be facing dificuities in later stages of the electrical (engineering) subjects. With this course on "Basics of Circuit Theory" we have tried to convey the students just the rigth amount of knowledge with simplicity so that every reader with some preliminary calculus and physics knowledge can easily follow. We have kept it simple and easy to grasp. It is about a total of 1.5 hours lentgh and includes several worked out exercises. If this course is digested well then the reader can go on with further progress in Electric Circuits. It will be especially useful for the first year students of the engineering faculties of the universities and the colleges. We intend to follow up with courses on "Analysis of DC Cicuits", "Analysis of AC Circuits", "Power and Energy in AC Circuits", " First Order Transient Circuits". At the end of this first course the reader will feel confident to move on further with the subject.
